Ice-Skating Field Trip
It was little Brandon's Kindergarten field trip day and it has been a while since he went ice-skating. Of course, he was a little scared, especially of falling. We had a one-hour session of free skate time. I went on the ice with him so he would feel more secured with me around. In the end, Brandon was a little more confident. He just needed to get used to it.
Here are just a few photos I took on my mobile at the rink.

iparent.tv Subscription Giveaway #iparenttv
What is iParent.TV? If your kids are awake, they’re probably on a smartphone, in front of a smart tv, downloading apps, or posting to social networks. And most likely you have no idea what they’re doing. iParent.TV will be a yearly, subscription-based website for teaching and informing parents on all things tech, mobile, devices, websites, and apps for kids so that you WILL know.
The Problem. Most parents don't have an inside track to tech or social media dangers, let alone how to safeguard their kids against them.
58% of 10-12 year old kids believe they know how to hide their online activities from their parents.
46% of them said they would change their online behavior if they knew their parents were paying attention.
Introducing iParent.TV - keeping parents ahead of the tech curve. We believe we have the opportunity to help parents understand, get involved and safeguard their children in the ever-evolving tech World. iParent.TV educates parents with all the latest trends via Websites - Social Media - Apps - Devices
The idea. It started with a group of dads who felt like their 9-year-olds knew more about tech than they did. They were right. But their idea will help change that forever for all parents. Once launched, iParent.TV will have 100s of videos and product reviews that are very current, cutting edge and trending, keeping parents who subscribe ahead of the tech curve.
How it will work? The iParent.TV website will be a subscription-based site costing $49 per year for parents to access all the videos, reviews, how-tos, and live chat support. It will be the largest site on the net helping parents understand what's safe and what’s not in the world of tech. They are offering it for only $29 on Indiegogo.
What you get? Articles, videos, reviews, tips, tools and expert advice on EVERYTHING such as...
- Popular Apps
- Social Network Sites
- Major Websites
- Top Devices
To get started visit http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/iparent-tv

A Visit to the Central Library
It was Pro-D Day on Friday for little Brandon, so no school. I decided to take him to the Central Library in downtown Vancouver. It was his first time there and he was amazed how big the library building was and many books. We took the skytrain as it was convenient getting there by transit rather than drive there and finding parking.
I haven't been to that library for years so there were some changes. The children's library is now downstairs. There were even a few play areas for the younger kids to play in as well as art tables for coloring and drawing.
Little Brandon had a lot of fun browsing books. FYI: The messy shelf was from someone else (not Brandon).

Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat Costume
I've always loved Dr. Suess' CAT IN THE HAT books as a child. The cartoon is always fun and educational. As little Brandon got older, he became interested in watching the Cat in the Hat television series as well as the books. Yes, he is a big fan! Every time Brandon tells me something, I'd ask him where he learned it from. I would also ask if he learned it from school. He would respond to me that he learned it from The Cat in The Hat.
There is a promotion on the nationwide reading celebration for the Read Across America Day on March 3rd, 2014. If you live in the US, I'm sure most of you know or heard about it. In case you don't know, that day is Dr. Seuss' birthday. It's new to me and I just heard about it. I live in Canada, but we do have something else called Family Literacy Day.
I was recently given the opportunity to pick out one of the Cat In The Hat costumes from Costume Supercenter. I decided to surprise Brandon this time and chose the Child's Dr. Seuss Cat In the Hat Accessory Kit which includes a Hat, Bow Tie and Gloves. I wanted the costume/outfit, but they were out of stock.
The accessory kit is one size and fits most ages 3-12. The costume is simple and little one can wear it comfortably. The red bow tie can be attached and detached with velcro at the back. I love the hat. It looks adorable on Brandon.
Disclosure: I received a choice of costume from CostumesuperCenter.com in exchange for my honest review in this post. Any expressed opinions are my own and personal thoughts. No other compensation was given.

Educational App Review: Lola Panda's Math Train 2
I wanted to mention a new educational app, Lola's Math Train 2, that just released February 6th. I had the chance to try it out with Little Brandon and it was quite fun!
Lola Panda’s Math Train 2
Learn Counting, Addition, and Subtraction with Lola!
Lola is back for even more math train adventures in Lola’s Math Train 2! Even more challenging and even more fun than the best-selling original! Take your child’s arithmetic learning to the next level, with games that range from simple addition and subtraction, all the way to challenging logic puzzles and multiplication! Hop on board and join Lola Panda on a new Math Journey!
Lola’s Math Train is the sequel to Lola’s Math Train 1 and is designed to help a child continue their education journey.
Lola’s Math Train 2 is designed for children between 6-8 years old. The game starts with easier tasks of addition and number sequencing, then gets more challenging when the child’s skills improve. After finishing each set of math tasks, the player gets to choose an outfit for a fun costume party!
New to this app, BeiZ has added technology that allows the game to self adjust in difficulty depending on the success or needs of the child. As they do better, the questions get harder and if more practice is needed the game will remain at the level until it’s achieved. At the end of each game the results are shown in an overall rating scale to assess how the child has done which allows for parents to see the achievements of their kids within the game!
I love the cute characters and the interface design. When Brandon tested it out, he told me that it was too hard for him at first. He's 5-1/2 years old so it is a little more challenging for him. He just needed to pay attention more. I assisted him and he was able to understand it right away. Kids can earn virtual rewards. We did the app together and I also sometimes reward him for the great work he did: things like a trip to the library, a treat, stickers, hugs, etc. It's also perfect for keeping Brandon busy and learning while waiting at the doctor's office.
Disclosure: I was provided an iTunes code of this app in exchange of my review in this post. Any expressed opinions are my own and personal thoughts. No other compensation was given.

Brandon's School Artwork
Do you find your shelf piled up or your house all cluttered with papers and artwork that your preschooler/child made? Do you get caught throwing out their stuff into the recycling bin? I'm sure some of you have experienced this. A few times Little Brandon saw his stuff in the recycling box and asked me to get it out for him. Recently, I've been taking photos of his school's artwork and keeping it in our digital gallery.
I found this article on Erica Ehm's YummyMummyClub.ca Facebook Page and brought me to her webpage: What do you do With All That Artwork? I also saw a few other suggestions from responders with these tips:
Pick out some pieces to send to friends and relatives. This is what Little Brandon does sometimes while making his artwork at school. He makes something for his classmates with the artwork he did in class.
Keep only a few favorite ones at home. I store them in a large binder of the ones we both like.
I take photos of them in a digital file. Sometimes I post it on my online gallery to share with friends and family. This is my way of keeping organized and Little Brandon recycles the 'hardcopy' ones he doesn't want to keep anymore.
Here are some of my favorites from his kindergarten artwork collection:
