"I Spy with Lola" Kids Educational App Review

I've always love to find out what educational apps are available. It's great learning fun for little Brandon and myself. Here's a great app by BeiZ Ltd. called I Spy With Lola. This one is more like a casual game where kids find objects on the screen.

Description:

Join Lola Panda as she travels around the world in her first I Spy adventure app! Visit Lola’s friends in different countries to help her find hundreds of hidden objects along the way.

I Spy With Lola is a multi-leveled game that will provide an educational challenge for kids of all ages! Start the game in the easy level where young children can practice object identification and word association. As they advance, challenge them to find objects associated to letters helping to unlock new locations. Older players can also test their skills in the hard level by solving creative riddles to find the hidden items!

Start your journey in Hawaii, collecting souvenirs and coins from each completed task and use those to unlock additional exotic locations. Find a fan in Japan, or a lantern in Yellowstone. Maybe even a lizard in Egypt! Each locale is beautifully animated with ample visual and spoken instruction and a unique catchy soundtrack.

Here's what you find in the app:

- Find hundreds of hidden objects from around the world
- Three difficulty levels for children ages three and eight years old
- High-quality graphics and animation
- Spoken and easy to understand instructions
- No in-app purchases - Unlock new locations as achievements are met!
- Available in six languages

Brandon just loves this game. It's fun and interactive. I think it's a good way to learn to recognize objects and listening to the sound of the words as well. Occasionally when we're in the car (not using iPad or any mobile device), he'll ask to play an "I Spy" game like pointing objects he sees in the car or while on the road. For an example: "I spy with my little eyes something blue." And then he'll point out the color of his schoolbag.

You can download and purchase the app for only $0.99 HERE. There is a FREE lite version if you want to try it out first.

Disclosure: I was given a code to redeem for the mentioned app in exchange for my review. Any expressed opinions are my own and personal thoughts. No other compensation was given.

"Gingerbread Man" - Free Holiday Season Download from Bari Koral Family Rock Band

"Gingerbread Man" by Bari Koral Family Band is off their album "Anna and the Cupcakes".

From cupcakes to gingerbread, this holiday season wraps up a very "sweet" year for Bari Koral. Anna and the Cupcakes, Bari's second full-length studio CD for kids and familes, was honored this year with the prestigious NAPPA Gold and Parents' Choice Recommended awards. Anna blends a cool mix of country, blues, and folk (all original, save a cover of the Avett Brothers' "Kick Drum Heart"). People Magazine dubbed the album one of the year's coolest for kids. Rave reviews for Bari's music rolled in from media outlets nationwide, including Yahoo! Kids, Time Out NY Kids, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Newsday, and more.

"Gingerbread Man" may be downloaded at: http://soundcloud.com/barikoralfamilyband/gingerbread-man

Creating an activity book for teachers and parents was another of Bari Koral's 2012 projects. The colorful activity book, which incorporates a great many fun music-and-movement and kids' yoga suggestions, along with some cool and peaceful kids' yoga tips, is available at Bari's live shows and on her website. Those who download Bari's "Gingerberad Man" song will want to check out the book's "Gingerbread Man" page, which has suggestions for activities to coordinate with the song.

Run, run, run as fast as you can...

A class classic! Children can lie on their back like a gingerbread man on the verse. For the choruses, run in a circle or run in place. Pretending the gingerbread gets eaten, perhaps the children run with one hand being on their back, on one leg, etc. as the song goes on. Challenging and fun!

eDiaperCakes Giveaway

Planning a baby shower for a friend or family member and looking for the perfect gift? I was recently introduced to eDiaperCakes.com and they have a variety of amazing (and really cute) diaper cakes. They offer $5 flat shipping within the U.S. only. They don't ship outside the U.S. at the moment, but hopefully some day because I'm sure my Canadian friends would love it.

eDiaperCakes was started by Liz Hur earlier this year. She is a new mom, a stay-at-home mom, who gave birth in November of 2011 to a baby girl. She started her own online business and website in April of 2012. One thing that makes them unique is that they make diaper cakes out of children's books. They use only brand name products to put in the diaper cakes. Diapers are made out of Pampers Swaddlers. Some other brands also used are Gund, TY and Kids Preferred.

You can choose a pre-designed diaper cake and you can also customize your own if you want something a little different. Having a baby is a magical moment in anybody's life. When you give someone a Diaper Cake, you're giving a gift that will make that magical moment as special as possible.

They even make Hello Kitty themes! How adorable is that?! Love it!

GIVEAWAY

One (1) lucky reader will receive a $25 eDiaperCakes.com Gift Certificate. Chosen winner will be selected via Random.org through Rafflecopter and is open to US only, 18+ (ends December 27, 2012 at 11:59pm EST). Winner will have 48 hours to respond to claim their prize. GOOD LUCK!

Fun With Languages (Chinese): Little Pim Review

I was recently introduced to Little Pim and my son, Brandon, and I was given the opportunity to review a DVD of the language of our choice. Little Pim is an excellent language tool for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Since our background is Chinese, we chose the Mandarin Chinese set. I was given a code to download the digital version of the Little Pim videos. Although we only understand Cantonese (not Mandarin), I thought it would be nice to learn a new language. We actually speak English mainly.

Brandon finds Little Pim (the Panda) amusing and he enjoyed watching the videos. So far he has learned a few words. The videos also show the English subtitles which was really helpful. Chinese pinyin characters were shown as well, but I wish they had also shown the pinyin in English syllables. That would make pronouncing easier.

Here's what the the kids can learn in each video:

Episode 1: Eating and Drinking
See Little Pim and friends making and eating food while having a great time discovering new tastes. This episode introduces more than 60 Spanish words and phrases for meal times.

Episode 2: Wake Up Smiling
See Little Pim and kids waking up, brushing up, dressing up, and find out what they are all smiling about! All about the joys of waking up to a new day and going to sleep at the end of a busy day, this episode introduces 60 Spanish words associated with morning and evening routines.

Episode 3: Playtime
See Little Pim and kids play together in Spanish. This episode explores the wonders of play, from blocks to boats to stuffed animals having tea parties, to dress up and introduces 60 Spanish words associated with playtime.

Episode 4: In My Home
Come along with Little Pim and friends as they play with their toys and explore the different rooms in a home, in both apartments and houses. This episode features two new characters, Lola the Elephant and Bob the Bobcat, and introduces 60 Spanish words and phrases associated with activities and settings in a home.

Episode 5: Happy, Sad and Silly
Join Little Pim and his friends on a journey of emotions. Kids will learn about emotions and feelings - from happiness and love, to sad faces, mad faces, and everything in between. Also featuring Lola the Elephant and Bob the Bobcat, this episode introduces 60 Spanish words and phrases kids can use to describe how they are feeling as they giggle along with Little Pim.

Episode 6: I Can Count
Join Little Pim and his friends as they count all sorts of fun objects in Spanish – from ladybugs to lollipops to dancing feet. Once kids learn to count to ten, they want to do it again and again. Also featuring Lola the Elephant and Bob the Bobcat, this episode introduces 60 Spanish words and phrases that will keep kids happily entertained as they count everything they see.

Little Pim has a great new deal for Black Friday. This Friday, November 23, 2012, they will be offering 40% off on all of their product with the code CYBERPIM at checkout www.littlepim.com.

Disclosure: I received a code to redeem for the digital downloads at no charge in exchange for a review of my opinion. The opinions expressed are my own personal and honest thoughts. No other compensation was given.

KINDER Celebrates "A Joy To Share" Program

It was another exciting moment when we received a package of holiday edition Kinder Surprise Eggs. We received a pack of Kinder Mini Eggs, A Kinder Surprise Maxi Giant egg, A Kinder Surprise Tree, and a Kinder Surprise Train.  Just a note that unlike Kinder Surprise, the Kinder Mini Eggs are not nut-free as they contain a delicious milky hazelnut center! I didn't give those to little Brandon as I am afraid he might have nut allergies.

We both sat on the floor and opened the box together and Brandon was excited to see what's new.  I went for the new Mini Eggs as I couldn't resist trying one (or few). I really like the festive packaging and thought it was a great idea for gift giving. Brandon chose which package he wants to open, so he picked the one with the tree packaging. He enjoyed the chocolate and also share a piece with me.

We got a "Sprinty" toy.

How our family is giving back this holiday season is donate to our local food bank (just as we do each year) and happiness as well as spending quality time with family. Also want to share this: The other day my 4-yr-old says "I love you" to me. Then I asked him what does he love about me. He answers "because you are a Kinder Mom". I giggled with him. That was too cute and it was priceless!

In support of Children's Miracle Network, KINDER is celebrating 'A Joy To Share' program by hosting another BIG giveaway on Facebook this season! And ‘tis the season for us to all give and give back, while sharing the joy with our own communities! KINDER Canada will be giving away 7,500 coupons to enjoy their delicious Kinder Mini Eggs, for free on their Facebook Page! This giveaway will begin on November 26th and will last for 10 weekdays, giving out 750 coupons each day at 12pm ET.

Watch the Martin Family story on Kinder Canada's Facebook page. Please "share" it with your friends and family to help encourage donations to the Children's Miracle Network. For every share of the video, Kinder will donate $1 to the Children’s Miracle Network, up to $5,000. Tell us if you know of other inspiring CMN stories.

Disclosure: I’m part of the Kinder® Mom program and I received special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
