Disney Cars 2: State Farm "Agents on a Mission" Tour

PRESENTED BY STATE FARM®, “AGENTS ON A MISSION” MULTI-CITY TOUR
KICKS OFF AT THE MALL OF AMERICA ON MARCH 22

Star Racecar Lightning McQueen, Lovable Tow Truck Mater and
Master British Spy Finn McMissile Race Across North America to Celebrate
Disney•Pixar’s Big-Screen Adventure “Cars 2”

BURBANK, Calif. (March 18, 2011) – Presented by State Farm, the “Agents on a Mission” tour hits the road with Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2” this spring when four-time Piston Cup champion Lightning McQueen and best friend Mater join master British spy Finn McMissile on a 30-city tour that kicks off at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., on March 22. The star cars race off the big screen and into a host of cities—life-size remote-controlled models will light up and rev for fans in Detroit, Toronto, Phoenix, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Washington, DC, and Miami, among others. The tour heats up at the film’s Los Angeles red-carpet premiere on June 18, just in time for the “Cars 2” theatrical opening on June 24.

“The ‘Agents on a Mission’ tour lets fans get face to face with ‘Cars’ favorites Lightning
McQueen and Mater, plus the very cool, very savvy spy Finn McMissile, a new character on ‘Cars 2’ roster,” says MT Carney, president of marketing for The Walt Disney Studios. “This movie is filled with fun, action, heart and a lot of laughs—we want to get everyone geared up for ‘Cars 2.’”

Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2” when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix. But the road to the championship is filled with surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine). Directed by John Lasseter and produced by Denise Ream, the fast-paced fun includes a colorful new all-car cast, complete with menacing villains and international racing competitors.

State Farm brings Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2” adventure directly to fans with the “Agents on a Mission” tour, showcasing cars modeled after their big-screen likenesses. The cars will be outfitted in Goodyear tires and transported from coast to coast (and back again) by Mack Trucks, Inc. Visitors can check out the cars and take part in a variety of “Cars 2”-themed activities, including a video kiosk, e-photo opportunities, games and giveaways. They can also enter the “Agents on a Mission” sweepstakes, which features 18,000 prizes, including a new car.

“State Farm is thrilled to present the ‘Cars 2’ ‘Agents on a Mission’ tour,” says Pam El, marketing vice president, State Farm. “Like our force of 18,000 agents across the U.S. and Canada, whose mission is to help people realize their dreams every day, families can become secret agents by participating in fun ‘Cars 2’-themed missions at the tour and online.”
The tour will run through June, hitting the U.S. red-carpet premiere in Los Angeles, and wrapping up in San Francisco and Sonoma.

Disney•Pixar’s “Cars,” originally released on June 9, 2006, grossed nearly $462 million worldwide. It was nominated for two Oscars® and one Golden Globe® Award, winning the first ever Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film.

Presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters, Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2” hits the track on June 24, 2011. The film marks DisneyPixar’s 12th feature-length animated film and will be released as Pixar Animation Studios celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year. The Studio, founded in 1986, has earned 29 Academy Awards® and seven Golden Globes®. To date, its 11 feature films have grossed more than $6.5 billion at the worldwide box office.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE CARS FROM THE STATE FARM “AGENTS ON A MISSION” TOUR

SIZE MATTERS – The replica cars are the largest production radio-controlled replica cars ever built.

·   At 1000 foot pounds of torque – the electric motors provide enough power to theoretically climb a telephone pole!
·  Finn weighs in around 1,760 lbs.
·   Lightning McQueen weighs in around 2,250 lbs.
·  Mater weighs in at just over 2,700 lbs.

ART IN MOTION -- Because of the unique scale of these vehicles, all the exterior pieces had to be fabricated from scratch. No actual “off- the-shelf” car parts could be used. The sculpting process for each vehicle’s body took 6-10 days, totaling 1000-1600 man hours. After the cars were carved in foam, a fiberglass mold was created, and from that the final bodies were produced.

·  The chassis for the cars are Model-T replica frames.
·  Mater is hand-painted, using a proprietary system that creates real rust on his cab and bed.
·  Because the cars had to reflect the designs of the film’s characters, the control systems (switches, lights etc.) had to be built into the various parts of the car. These have been hidden from view.

FILL ‘ER UP -- The cars are all electric powered. Each runs on four automotive-style batteries at 48 volts and can run for 30 minutes at full speed.

NO SPEEDING ZONE -- The cars can travel up to 10 miles per hour.

REV IT UP -- The engine sounds and exhaust sounds are recreated through a 200-watt sound system under the hood.

·  The cars are controlled by a high-tech radio-control system normally used for high-end RC hobby cars.

TRICKY TIRES – Lightning McQueen’s tires are one of a kind due to their unique size and were fabricated by Goodyear specifically for the “Agents on a Mission” tour.

·  Lightning McQueen is so low to the ground that he needs specially designed ramps to get over even the smallest bumps.

YOU’VE GOT THE LOOK -- There are three sets of eyes that are held to the windshield by magnets. The fiberglass windshield is imbedded with iron filings which attracts the magnetic eyes.

Eek and Slo iPad App

So far, this has been a crazy month. As some of you may already know that my laptop broke down and I have been so busy trying to catch up with emails and blog posts. I couldn't do a lot of things from my iPad. It isn't powerful as my laptop and I can't even multitask. Anyway, I was able to review another cool app from Punflaykids.

This one was newly released and I was given the opportunity to test it out. It's an interactive story called Eek and Slo. Of course, my little Brandon enjoyed it. Punflay has really fun apps for the kids to keep them entertained. It was perfect for Brandon to keep him busy for a while (and I can catch up with my work). He especially like apps that he can touch the screen to move the objects or characters.

Eek and Slo
Ever seen your kindergartener spend hours watching or chasing worms and bugs? Mini beasts seem to hold a particular attraction for little ones. Punflay’s new offering Eek and Slo for your pre-K and Kindergarten kids builds on this fascination by introducing two crazy insect characters – Eek the earthworm and Slo the snail. Through an entertaining but simple story spun around these two characters, Punflay seeks to introduce your child to the key pre-number spatial concepts of up and down. And living up to the theory that doing is learning, in this app, your child will not only see things go up and down, but will actually push things up and down in every screen.

When Eek decides to come up from his underground home for a walk, he disturbs the slumbering Slo. Completely unaware of the disturbance he has caused, Eek briskly walks through a farm peering curiously at the farm animals while Slo puffs along crossly behind him, demanding an apology. As they walk through the farm, they climb up and tumble down things, besides finding other things along their way that bob up and down. Lovely child-friendly illustrations and extremely simple text make the app particularly inviting for children. Interactions on every page, each carefully designed to promote understanding of the concepts of up and down, are calculated to bring the child back again and again to the app.

Disclosure: I received a code to redeem for the above Apple iTunes Apps at no charge in exchange for a review of my opinion. Thanks to PunFlay and Emantras Inc. The opinions expressed are my own personal and honest thoughts. No other compensation was given.

Ddrops: The Sunshine Vitamin Review & $25 GC Giveaway

The Importance of Vitamin D

Why is Vitamin D so important for our well-being? Research is proving that Vitamin D has many benefits on multiple organs within the body. Too little vitamin D can lower the immune system and increase the risk of heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes and more.

Since Brandon and I are somewhat lactose intolerant, we don't get to drink milk much so we are lacking vitamin D. And also since both of us are sick, our doctor told us to avoid dairy products for some time. The way we get enough of vitamin D is by taking supplements. Brandon takes vitamin chews, which he really likes (as it is like candy to him). For me, I used to take calcium chews. I stopped taking them because I didn't like the taste at all.

I was glad I was introduced to Ddrops. Ddrops are the sunshine vitamin in just one drop! I received a Ddrop for myself to try as well as a Kids Ddrop for little Brandon. Ddrops offers people an alternative to taking conventional pills or capsules. It is so fast and easy because I just put a drop in our drink or food once each day. I like how it's tasteless and it's odorless so we can't really tell there was something extra added.

The Kids Ddrops feature the Nickelodeon character, Dora, which is one of Brandon's favorite character. When he saw the box, he wanted to see it and asked what it is inside. I told him it is a liquid vitamin D and that it is just for kids like him (children 2 years and older).

WHERE TO BUY?
Ddrop vitamins are available for purchase at many of your local retail stores such as Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, Superstore, Zellers, Walmart, etc.

Doodles Alphablet Coloring Fun Review & Giveaway

Does your child like to doodle or color? What kid doesn't? Little Brandon here is a little budding artist (just like mommy). It's great that he loves books and loves to color. And what better way to have fun with coloring and learn their alphabets at the same time is the Doodles Alphabet Coloring Fun book created by Setria James. Children can also learn to recognize objects that start with that letter.

I'm pretty amazed how Brandon is such a quick learner and can recognize things so easily. He'll be definitely ready for preschool this year. It's really neat what he does... He'll doodle something on a blank piece of paper that he remembers seeing in coloring books. I think it's all about lines and shapes too that kids learn with coloring books.

The book is geared towards children ages 2 to 6. While the purpose of the book is to make learning the alphabet exciting, children will also be introduced to new words. To help your child identify each letter of the alphabet, on the upper left-hand corner of each page is the letter and below are doodles starting with the matching letter. There are up to 52 images for children to discover and color. This is perfect for learning the alphabet.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Setria James was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She is a graduate of Texas Woman's University, where she earned a Bachelors in Fine Arts and a Masters of Art. Since graduation, she has worked as an in-house graphic designer, at a Fortune 500 company, while also exploring her creative voice through drawing, writing, and painting. Setria is extremely active in her community; as a board member of a grass roots DFW non-profit organization, she spends much of her time giving back to less fortunate families. Her life's goal is to positively affect change in her community through cultivating her own artistic expression as well as assisting others in finding their creative voice.

CSN Stores Review: Kid's Backpacks, Lunch Kits, and More

I am so excited to bring you another review with CSN Stores (now part of Wayfair.com. I am very satisfied with their fast service and smooth delivery. I have ordered with them a few times before and had no hassles. Since I'm located in Canada, I needed some assistance because of the calculation with shipping & international fee amounts.

I've picked up the following items for little Brandon:
- Angel Street Kids Monster Toddler Backpack
- Angel Street Kids Monster Lunch Bag
- Tiger Insulated Lunch Container
- Gingko Panda Babies Stainless Steel 2 Piece Utensil Set

Angel Street Kids Monster Toddler Backpack

The kids backpack is perfect for Brandon to use at pre-school. It was a bit bigger than I thought, but it didn't really matter as he will grow into it. The little monster characters on are cute. Other things that made the backpack adorable are the color patterns, molded zipper pulls, and the overall design.

The website have many toddler backpacks/school bags available, but the ones I like weren't able to ship to Canada. I really wanted the puppy dog one. This one was my other choice and it was perfect for little boy toddlers like Brandon. Yep, Brandon loves it and everytime he goes out, he wants to put his car toys in his new school bag.

Angel Street Kids Toddler Lunch Bag

This lunch bag is perfect for kid's lunch. It is a perfect size and comes with a handle for easy carrying. Since it was small and portable enough for Brandon to carry himself, we also used it as his snack bag and had room to hold his toys when we are out. Since the bag isn't very shallow, it can only fit smaller things such as small toys, juice boxes, small sippy cups, and small snack containers. It isn't like the bigger lunch kits where you can fit a Thermos. Again, it's a perfect size for small toddlers like Brandon to carry themselves. And it was a nice to match up with the backpack.

Tiger Insulated Lunch Container

I never had one of these, but I love it. The Tiger brand Insulated Lunch Box includes 3 compartments to separate food. It only keeps warm for a few hours, enough to last from morning preparation to lunch time (or from afternoon preparation to dinner time). If the liquid does spill, it only leaks a little bit inside the outer container. I was surprise that there weren't any English of the instruction manual. Everything was in Japanese characters.

Gingko Panda Babies 2-piece Utensil Set

When the package arrived, I was expecting it to come with the original box packaging that was show in the picture on the website. Instead, it was wrapped in paper tissue in a rectangular box. It would've been nice to have the spoon and fork displayed in the original box (like the pic on the left) if I were to give it away as a gift.

The stainless steel spoon and fork utensil set had a nice little design. It was small and great for little toddler hands. The spoon was a little bit smaller than the the one's I've been using, but still works for little Brandon. He likes them and felt like he was a big boy using stainless steel ones like us adults (instead of the plastic spoons he had).

Disclosure: I received a gift certificate from CSNstores.com in exchange for a review of my opinion. The opinions expressed are my own personal and honest thoughts. No other compensation was given.
